What does "You can always paint the roses red" mean?

I know it's from Alice in Wonderland. Lady Ascot told Alice "Imbeciles! The garden is planted with white roses when I've specifically asked the red" and Alice told her "You can always paint the roses red". I've found a few people who have gotten the quote "You can always paint the roses red" along with a partially painted rose with red paint dripping from the rose. So my question is, what is the meaning/significance of this quote that' makes it meaningful as a tattoo?
