Fear of sharks and I am a surfer?

I surf from the San Diego coast to the LA coast. However I will be spending my summer in La Jolla in San Diego county and will be surfing pretty much every day for 3 months. The area just had a shark attack in the past couple weeks, a fatal attack in 2008 and is known to have a lot of great whites. I actually saw a great white when I was looking from the bluffs last week. I am starting to get freaked out because I live in a great surf area, but there seem to be a high amount of attacks in the area during the summer. What do I do? I feel like I will be sitting on my board in fear, feeling like I am going to be attacked any minute :/ I am scared, how do I get past that fear? And yes I know attacks are rare but I have had shiz happen to me in the past that pple say are rare like stung by a ray and I have been bitten by a rattle snake too.
